The Tambopata Macaw Project started a new campaign today on Experiment called "Increasing survival of macaw chicks using foster macaw parents in the wild". Wild Scarlet Macaw populations are declining due to the illegal pet trade and habitat loss. Although Scarlet Macaws lay 2-4 eggs, macaw parents will only feed the 1st and 2nd chick, while the others starve to death. They will develop techniques to increase survival of these chicks by moving them into new nests with no chicks, or only 1 chick. Support their initiative by co-funding their campaign!
The Macaw Project is participating in the prestigious Wildlife Conservation Film Festival in New York, USA next month. If you happen to be in the vicinity try and go to the event as many other conservation documentaries will also be screened.

A big milestone for The Macaw Project documentary: it was broadcasted on the national TV Perú on the 7th May (Sunday) at 11:00 AM. One of our main aims was to broadcast the Spanish version of the documentary in Central and South America. The Peruvian premiere was especially important for public awareness raising within the country of origin of this documentary. Visit our Facebook event page or this article in TV Perú for more information. Watch the Peruvian TV trailer below. Living in Australia or New Zealand? Watch the documentary in your local cinema! How it works:
We are preparing a Polish (thanks to Izabela Dłużyk), a German (thanks to Imre Kosa), and a Portuguese (thanks to Aves Exóticas) version of the documentary as well.

Bird-blessed Canberra's best and brightest parrots are spectacular in the extreme. And yet even they pale a little by comparison with ANU biologist Dr George Olah's special subject, the Scarlet Macaw (Ara macao). Tuesday sees the world premiere screening, at the ANU, of his documentary film The Macaw Project about the hefty (weighing up to 1.3 kilograms and growing up to 90cms in length) and brilliantly coloured species. It is, no wonder, the national bird of Honduras, rather as the not-so-showy but quietly magnificent Gang-gang cockatoo is the faunal emblem of the ACT. Come along for the first screening in Australia and enjoy some Peruvian food and Pisco sours.
Date: 6th December 2016, 6:00 pm – 7:30 pm Location: Auditorium of the Australian Centre on China in the World, The Australian National University, Canberra The event will be hosted by ACT Scientist of the year 2016, Dr Ceridwen Fraser, and opened by the ambassador of Peru and former Chairman of the United Nations Commission on Science and Technology for Development, His Excellency Mr Miguel Palomino De La Gala. Following the screening, a Q&A will be hosted by the a panel consisting of documentary film maker, Dr George Olah; conservation biologist and evolutionary ecologist, Prof Robert Heinsohn; and evolutionary biologist and conservation geneticist, Prof Rod Peakall. Read more information about our film debut on the Peru for Less Blog (on the left) written by Britt Fracolli. Peru for Less was one of the VIP sponsor of our documentary, we really appreciate their contribution!
On this page we will give you updates about the documentary, like upcoming screenings in different countries.
